Website migration to TYPO3
Consolidation of a website with the open source CMS TYPO3
The aim of the project was to consolidate the website of a large German association consisting of countless static HTML pages and individual dynamic PHP scripts with the open source content management system TYPO3 and to give it a visual relaunch. The decision in favor of TYPO3 was made at the beginning of the project because the CMS offers a wide range of functions and guarantees vendor independence. Last but not least, an "ecosystem" of service providers with know-how and a wide range of additional modules has been created in recent years.
In the course of this migration, eWorks was responsible for setting up the software for the new TYPO3 system. This included the design of the database, the definition of TypoScript templates based on the layout provided, the programming of new modules and the transfer of the PHP scripts in the old system into a TYPO3-compliant, object-oriented structure.
Individual import filters were developed for the transfer of over 60,000 source pages, which automatically inserted the content into the TYPO3 database. Navigation structures, graphics and formatting were adopted. Both German and English content was migrated.
A further task of eWorks was to meet the high performance requirements of the website through various tuning measures and the development of a caching system for particularly intensively frequented components. The TYPO3 on-board resources were and are not up to the specific load requirements in all areas, so that individual solutions were used here.
