Performance optimization of a 750,000-item store

eWorks has taken over the performance optimization and further development of the online store www.Temeon.de and www.Froeschl.de.

As part of the performance optimization, an analysis of the performance bottlenecks of the store with more than 750,000 articles was first carried out and then a technical catalog of measures was drawn up. In consultation with the store operator, the most efficient measures were selected and implemented.

The result of the optimization is a reduction in page delivery times by a factor of 10-50 compared to before the optimization (depending on the page).

Furthermore, eWorks realized the automatic, nightly data import of the catalog data of a book wholesaler with around 390,000 articles and implemented a high-performance cross-selling logic.

The tools used are Openshop based on MySQL, enriched with JAVA, PHP and C applications, shell scripts and cronjobs. XML & CSV were used for data import and export, and the ONIX standard was used for the special area of book data.

Development was carried out using VisualStudio.NET, Eclipse, Zend Studio, UltraEdit and vi.

The performance optimization and further development was carried out between July 2005 and December 2005 and continues to this day in the form of continuous care and maintenance.
