PowerPoint programming of an Office add-in

VBA development of a PowerPoint tool for creating presentations

The provider of technical building equipment "Caverion Deutschland GmbH" (Munich) commissioned eWorks with the VBA programming of a Microsoft PowerPoint add-in. The objective was the simple and automated switching between different slide layouts of the title slides for printing and presentation purposes.

The software development of the PowerPoint add-in was carried out exclusively through VBA development, i.e. by programming corresponding VBA macros for PowerPoint in the form of an Office add-in. This technology makes it possible to integrate seamlessly and almost "invisibly" into PowerPoint and to become active automatically without user interaction as soon as a PPT presentation is to be printed. However, additional operating options have also been integrated into the PowerPoint ribbon so that the functions can also be called up manually if required.

At the client's request, the software development and quality assurance was carried out for both PowerPoint 2010 and the slightly older PowerPoint 2007. However, this did not prove to be very problematic during programming, as the VBA programming is almost identical for both PowerPoint versions. The layout settings to be used were stored as standard PowerPoint slides so that the client could maintain them independently during operation and adapt them if necessary.

eWorks supported its client from the outset during the programming of the PowerPoint add-in: starting with the technical concept and PowerPoint macro programming through to the handover and commissioning of the developed PowerPoint tool. Following the installation, eWorks is available to its client for operating questions, any error reports (warranty) and possible expansion requests.
