Modernization of the Microsoft Access database for INOS plant engineering and electronics production
Updating, migration and optimization of the Microsoft Access database
INOS Anlagenbau und Elektronikfertigung in Biebergemünd, Hesse, has been active in cable assembly for drive and control technology and switchgear since 1980. The company uses a Microsoft Access database with Microsoft SQL Server to manage all materials, products, deliveries, processes and stocks. Originally designed as an Access Data Project (ADP), the database could no longer be used from Microsoft Office version 2013 onwards, as this combination was no longer supported by Microsoft.
eWorks was used to update the Access database and bring it up to date so that it could run with the latest Office versions again. This step not only served the purpose of modernization, but also IT security, as security updates are no longer rolled out for older Office versions. At the beginning of the project, eWorks first familiarized itself with the Access database and then modernized it for the current Microsoft Office version. All tables, procedures and views were decoupled from the ADP and connected to the Access front end via an ODBC connection. Structures were optimized, tables merged, procedure calls and queries adapted and much more - for maximum compatibility and optimum performance.
In addition, the eWorks Access developers supported the customer in the creation of queries, evaluations, pivot tables and diagrams as well as in the new development of imports, processes, automatisms and other Access macros to be programmed individually.
Since the handover and commissioning, INOS employees have been working with the revamped Access database on a daily basis and can call on the eWorks team in the event of problems. The team will continue to be available for all questions relating to support, maintenance and further development.
