milchBox BBS
The mailbox for Büdingen and the surrounding area
Development of the milchBox, a mailbox for Büdingen and the surrounding area (so-called "BBS" or "Bulletin Board System").
Before the WWW and e-mail were popular, mailboxes were used to exchange electronic messages (today: e-mail), to publish and download files (today: FTP, HTTP and Peer2Peer), to chat (today: ICQ & Co.) and to visit electronic discussion groups (today: Usenet and web forums).
The milchBox was available from 1995 to 1998 under the telephone number 06042/560, and in its final days had a respectable 150 users who dialed into the milchBox via modem and telephone line as required.
A new feature for a mailbox was the specially developed "graphical" user interface, which extended from the login screen to the main menu and all sub-areas right through to system logout.
