Excel tool for managing clinical codes
Development of an Excel solution for the management of clinical codes
For ifa systems AG, a company specializing in software solutions for professional ophthalmology, eWorks GmbH has developed a tool for managing clinical codes based on an Excel workbook.
The VBA-programmed tool for managing clinical codes is available in the form of an Excel workbook. There are two versions with different functionalities: On the one hand, the "author version" with the option to fully customize the workbook and assign a license key for each user. The second is the user version, which grants the user restricted access to certain areas. With the help of the workbook, users can also integrate their own clinical codes, which they use within their electronic patient file, into the tool.
A menu ribbon created specifically for the Excel tool allows users to conveniently access the functions available for the respective user version. This ensures that the structure of the workbook is retained and that the layout and validation are restored after a manual extension if necessary. The tool offers an export and import mechanism for this area to enable focused work in defined work groups. The result can also be exported from the tool to a CSV file to enable the data to be transferred to other systems and to simplify workflows.
The tool has also been expanded to include the so-called Observation Class Extension (OCE). This extension of the CCMM table manages user-specific findings and test data that lead to certain diagnostic complexes. For this purpose, the tool programmed in Excel creates a worksheet for each OCE code stored in the main table, which enables the addition of observation codes to diagnostic complexes in both the author and user versions.
eWorks GmbH provided ifa systems AG with comprehensive support in the implementation of the Excel application: From planning and programming to handover and commissioning as well as support for the Excel solution.
