Development of a download portal with TYPO3

eWorks was commissioned by mathepower.de GmbH to develop a download portal. The download portal offers task collections for schools, pupils and teachers in a public and a protected area. The task collections are available in a large number of individual files in PDF and Word format. Performance aspects were therefore particularly important during development.

The turnkey implementation of the download portal lernenkompakt.de, formerly Mathe-Portal, was carried out in a period of six weeks on the basis of TYPO3. eWorks opted for the realization with TYPO3, as essential basic functions such as front-end output, back-end area and user administration are already included in the basic software. In addition, TYPO3 enjoys a good reputation and - as it is open source - saves license costs.

The specific requirements could be implemented with a TYPO3 extension developed by eWorks. They include

Interactive browsing through the nested directory structures
High operating speed through AJAX - only the required content is loaded
Search functionality with keyword search
Daily indexing of documents
Convenient download of the documents offered

The software was developed in close cooperation with the client in iterative development cycles. The project was completed with the installation on the customer's server in mid-March 2010. Since then, the download portal has been actively used by the client's customers and technically maintained by eWorks, in particular with TYPO3 updates.

In October 2021, the portal was given a new look by eWorks and has also been mobile-compatible since then.
